Ruth Thompson of Hugs Cafe joins Ron & Friedo for this episode of McKinney on the Move

Hugs Cafe has been in the making for more than 15 years and began as a simple passion for people. Our Founder and President, Ruth Thompson, found this passion in the early 2000’s while working with Adults with Special needs in Parker, Colorado at New Day In Home and Respite Care.  This served as the foundation for Hugs Cafe and would ultimately lead to its formation in 2013.  Without her inspiration, her drive and her determination, we would not be here today.

Mission Regan exists to bridge the chasm between people who have too much and people who struggle to survive. We collect supplies, medication, and medical equipment, then send them to those who are in desperate need – locally and globally. We focus on what we can learn from the people we are giving to, rather than what we are doing for them, and aim to sustain and continue relationships with the people we help. We believe that we can all help each other, regardless of our status.

Today's guests Tyler Richardson and Courtney Willis are instrumental in the operation of this great organization.

Nancy Cowlishaw is coordinator of McKinney ISD Partners in Education, which furnishes relationships between schools, businesses and volunteers. Its REACH mentor program pairs adult mentors with students of all ages. Cowlishaw also runs her own clothing business. We asked her about both.
