In this conversation, we get into her insights on the importance of step-by-step business growth, the vital role of impactful packaging, and why it’s important to truly collaborate with independent pet retailers.
I loved hearing about Kelly’s brand story and the passion behind each ingredient in her recipes. You’ll learn that Einstein Pets is all about using really high-quality ingredients… and enough of them so that you can really smell the ingredients when you open the bag of treats! The smell factor is important!
Every chat with an industry leader like Kelly is a treasure trove of wisdom, and today is no exception.
My main takeaway? I hope this episode inspires you to grow your business in a sustainable way that works for you. We want your business to be growing and thriving 10 years from now and 20 years from now. Don’t feel the pressure to do everything all at once and get burnt out.

In this new podcast episode, I’m talking with Ellie Hansen, the host of the Dog Research Exposed Podcast. Our conversation starts with Ellie's journey into the pet industry. It all began 16 years ago when she opened a pet bakery in Billings, MT. With the tremendous support of the local community, her business has flourished, expanding to two locations that she still operates today. In addition to the bakery, Ellie's business now also includes a self-serve dog wash and a full-service grooming salon. I loved learning about her business, but the bulk of our conversation in this episode revolves around animal testing. This subject sparked Ellie’s interest when she stumbled on a video on Facebook several years ago.
This inspired her to connect with a rescue organization dedicated to rehoming beagles that had been subjected to laboratory testing. When Ellie brought her first rescue beagle home and around her shop in Billings, her friends and customers were shocked to discover that dogs are still being used for testing purposes.
Motivated by Marty's resilience and the interest she felt from the community around her, Ellie focused on advocacy work for laboratory test animals, using her book and podcast as platforms to raise awareness. I asked Ellie for something we can implement in our own day to day lives to make an impact for this cause. She helped me to discover how important it is to make sure that every home cleaning product or beauty product you buy is cruelty free. Look for the leaping bunny symbol and tell your friends to do the same.
I want to warn you that parts of this interview maybe be difficult to listen to due to the mention of animal abuse. However, I hope you will take the time. While it may be challenging for us to hear about the abuse, it pales in comparison to what so many innocent animals are subjected to every day.

Today I’m sharing a conversation with Chicago-based dog trainer Daphne Mendoza. Daphne is all about spreading the message of responsible dog ownership.
What captivates me about Daphne's story is her background and the unique cultural influences she brings to the table. Growing up in Mexico City, she had a real hands-on experience with dogs because her grandfather was the chief of police. Together, they'd catch stray dogs, get them spayed or neutered, and either find them new homes or set them free again.
These experiences, combined with her own journey as an immigrant to the United States, inspired her to start her own successful dog training business. And she's not afraid to call out the lack of diversity in the industry. Coming from an indigenous background herself, Daphne is all about pushing for inclusivity and a more community-focused approach.
Throughout our chat, Daphne really drives home the importance of being a responsible pet owner. She challenges the whole idea of treating dogs as "fur babies" and emphasizes the need to respect them as individuals.
We also dig into the challenges of having dogs in the city and how crucial it is for them to have proper space and exercise. Daphne's training approach revolves around incorporating dog care into everyday life, making sure our pups can be themselves while still thriving in their urban surroundings. This conversation with Daphne will leave you reflecting on the pet industry and the changes we can make for the better.
In this solo episode, I'm talking about the power of making small changes. I'll share a mind-blowing story about how two simple changes to my blog resulted in doubling my ad revenue. It's a game-changer, and I can't wait to share it with you.

But before we dive into that, I want to emphasize the importance of having a supportive community. That's why I love fostering conversations and relationships in my membership community, Wear Wag Repeat Society. In this episode of the Wear Wag Repeat Podcast, we're getting into a heartfelt chat with the lovely Carla Finzel, a District Veterinary Nurse based in the UK. In this conversation, we cover the emotional depths of caregiver compassion fatigue – that real strain pet guardians feel when trying to administer care to their pets.
Carla was in the trenches at an emergency vet clinic practice for years and shared a fascinating tidbit from her journal. She observed that so many pets who came in, while not in immediate danger, could’ve hugely benefited from an in-home veterinary nurse visit. By being there for pet owners in this unique way, Carla’s not only lending a hand to pets and their people but also easing the load on veterinarians.
We also explore the invaluable human-animal bond we share with our pets and its incredible significance.
What we want to leave you thinking about is the immense value that in-home veterinary services can bring. They can prevent bigger health issues, shorten illness durations, and ultimately ensure we get to enjoy more time with our faithful companions.
Welcome back to another solo episode of the Wear Wag Repeat Podcast. This one’s all about how to implement surveys in your pet business.
