HEROES 101 Radio

Created in 2012 by a group of Real-Life Superheroes (RLSH) called "The Initiative" (www.initiativecollective.com), hosts "Rock N Roll" and "NightBug" of the California Initiative and "Impact" of the Xtreme Justice League (St. Petersburg branch) bring on guest speakers and other RLSH to discuss timely info, safety tips, survival skills, and geeky fun.

Available Episodes 10

A long time ago, in an age well before COVID-19... the real-life superhero community had a counter-balance: Real-life supervillains. Unlike their comic-book counterparts who typically sought only money, chaos, or to become top of the villainous "food chain," RLSV actually helped to bring a sense of integrity and heretofore-unknown levels of accountability by calling out individuals or groups who, to put it nicely, had room for improvement in the way they chose to be "heroic." Fast-forward to 2021: The RLSV have all but vanished or renounced their villainous ways, leaving RLSH to police themselves. But just how well is that working out? In this age of so-called "cancel culture," can real-life superheroes now do the job that once required villainous intervention? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (click here to learn how to pronounce "who will guard the guards themselves?" in Latin!) Tune in to Heroes 101 Radio this WEDNESDAY, March 17th, 6pm PT/9pm ET and cross your fingers that we'll hear from some villainous guests (who are still checking their dastardly datebooks)!

Impact, NightBug, and Rock N Roll are back and they're bringing the good vibes with them.  (C'mon, 2020 was a sh#tshow of a year; we could use some positive news!) We'll tell you who's doing what and where and why you should care. Hey- that rhymes ... On the serious side, there are many exciting things happening in the RLSH community; people need a good shout-out every now and then.  Plus, we're inviting you to call in and tell us something good that's going on with you.  Moved to *Thursday*, Feb 25, 6PM PT/ 9PM ET

Where do you go to find fellow RLSH teammates? More importantly, where do you go to find quality teammates who are consistent, stable and long-lasting?  We discuss this and much more on this episode of HEROES 101 Radio.

In light of the recent murders committed by someone who thought he was protecting his community, Rock, Impact, and NightBug invite you to join this important discussion about the differences between real-life "superheroing" and vigilantism/murder. Our featured guest speakers are Treesong, branch leader of the Illinois Initiative, and Thomas Strange aka "Old School" of the Boston, Massachusetts  Initiative. We welcome you to join the online discussion via phone call, live chat, or to just listen in. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th @ 7pm PT / 10 pm ET.

RIP, Dale Pople aka Superhero.  On Saturday July 18 we lost our brother, our mentor, our Superhero to suicide.  Please join us for this special episode. We'll talk about ways to cope with depression, how we can help others, and we'll share stories about Dale.  Tuesday, July 21st 7pm PT/10pm ET

In this DIY episode, Impact shares tips on how to create your own patrol/outreach/etc. gear without setting your wallet on fire, while Rock discusses the pros and cons of appearing too "armored up."  Join the discussion. Call in with your questions and suggestions!  Tuesday, July 14 7PM PT/10 PM ET

In light of the recent shooting tragedy in Seattle, and the efforts of a Real-Life Superhero Team, Emerald City Heroes Organization (ECHO), to help the victim,  along with ensuing coverage and incorrect narrative of the event by a right-wing publication, we invite callers and live chat-room participants to voice their opinions on the event and the responses of both media and the RLSH community.  Tuesday June 30, 7PM PT

Sleep? What's that?? Are you having strange dreams? Is your anxiety/depression/fear a constant companion? Do you (now more than ever) want to go outside for a homeless outreach event or patrol?  You're not alone.  We've invited one of our favorite psychologists, Dr. Avrille Polack to join us. We'll discuss ways to help you cope while still trying to save the world. Another great episode for RLSH and all you other heroes.  TUESDAY, May 19 at 7PM PT/10 ET

In light of all the less-than-happy news, HEROES 101 Radio wants to cut you a break.  We're providing a fun and light-hearted distraction by bringing in Frank Todaro, who lends his talents to Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy, coming to Netflix! We'll also discuss his many voice-acting roles in Dragon Quest, Dolittle, NinoKuni (now on Netflix), Lupin the 3rd Part 5, and so many others! Call in, join the chat, or just listen in and geek out like the rest of us.  Tuesday, March 31st at 7pm PT-10pm ET

Everywhere you look, there are instructions on how to help yourself and others during this pandemic. But where can you find advice and information on what to do when you're used to being the one who helps? WHO HELPS THE HELPERS? In this special episode, Rock, Impact, and 'Bug will discuss how to make/find survival essentials, whether RLSH should even continue patrolling during this time, and we'll do a check-in to see how RLSH are handling the quarantine in their areas.  Tune in Tuesday, March 24th (tomorrow!) @ 7pm PT/10pm ET!
