Podcast of a conversation by two guys who have a passion for tabletop games and happen to have mics. (Family friendly)
Popular themes seem to cycles in and out of board games every few years. Right now, nature themed board games seem to be all the rage. We are getting tired of and explain why. Plus we talk about themes that are interesting to us

We got another big block of games coming your way in this episode. But before we jump in, big thanks to Mark Kale and his successful MegaMoose Con this past month. If you are in the Charlotte, NC or Columbia, SC area, check it out.
Age of Innovation is the next installment of the Terra Mystica franchise and if you haven’t picked up any of the previous games and have always wanted to, then this might be the one to go for. Like a good Brandy, it has aged well and the challenges in previous versions have been addressed, in my opinion. It is not for those looking for a quick play or an easy play, this game has got strategy out the butt.
We are also doing our shotgun approach with six, five minute reviews, give or take a few seconds. I know he said seven, but counting can be a challenge for us at times. You should see us advance a scoring token on the victory point track sometimes.

We have a very long show, but that is what happens when you go away on vacation and you spend show time catching up on what has been happening during board game night.
Match of the Century from Capstone…solid. If you would like a new two-player game and Watergate was one that you enjoyed, then this needs a look. Hard decisions but fast game play, two things I really enjoy in a two-player game.
If you enjoy pulling of combos while playing a game and it gives you that feeling of being clever, the The White Castle from Devir might be one to add to the collection. Also, Devir production is just amazing, so solid game and top-notch production make it a no brainer for some.
And the impossible happened, I got to play a Social Deduction game that I didn’t immediately poo-poo on. Check out what we have to say about Inside Job to get the full details.

Probably one of the best intros ever for this show and it wasn’t by Marty and me. Here is the text that was given to Vanessa to read:
Hey ya’ll
In this episode the guys tell us about General Orders. Plus 8, yes 8, 5 minute initiatives covering some of the hot new games they have recently played
See, it wasn’t easy and if you just did a straight read, it could be confusing because normally he will list the games out.
Talking about games, we have a bunch in this episode, and you are so welcomed for us making them 5 Minute Initiates because we saved you almost two hours had they been the normal length. Always looking at ways to give back, yes we are. Then we have the solo review by Marty.

Time to head to Gen Con and while you are on the road, what better way to spend time than listening to our latest episode. Wait, we need you to concentrate on your driving, scratch that, because we don’t need you falling asleep behind the wheel.
In this episode, we got some IPs to the table and discuss if they live up to the license that they are based on. But what about the gameplay, we got that covered as well. Will say that if you are interested in Trials of Tempus, you better have a big table for all the cardboard that is going to be out.
Thanks for listening and say “Hey” if you see us at Gen Con.

Sometimes a game is better than what you expected, and you are caught by surprise. You knew you would like it because of the mechanics and even because of the publisher, but it was better than your expectations. This was Dawn of Ulos for us recently. We were not sure how they were going to pull the economic part of this game off, but they did, and it was not like a tired old stock market game.
Ethnos has been one of our favorite games and we were excited to see that it was getting a reprint but not everything made it into the final game. In our opinion, the area majority should not have been removed. The times that I have played the game, it is what has helped swing the victory points at the end and helped keep leaders in check. It was also a larger part of the strategy of the game. Archeos Society left that out and opted for victory point tracks where there is no competition other than for the cards that help you progress of the track. Will admit, the new version is simpler to play and teach and might be what you are looking for in this set collection game. Mixed feelings on this one
War games have become a norm at RDTN and 1212 Las Navas de Tolosa provides a war game fix for us at lunch with this fast-playing war game. The asymmetric sides provide the strategy and tension required in these types of games and the card draws help with the random events that are needed to keep strategies fresh.

Chess is the same thing over and over again. There are no expansions or variable setup. So it must not be very replayable. Au contraire! We look at the reasons why and how this expands to board games.
