Special episode alert! This is the first time we've ever taken The Mash Up on the road. When Hector Garcia (who is a fan and friend of the podcast) asked us to come to his restaurant in Corbin, KY, we couldn't say no. Hector is the co-owner and operator of Brooklyn Brothers Pizzeria in Corbin and he is not only a budding bourbon aficionado, but also the proprietor of some of the best Italian style food we've ever had. This week, we taste and review the newest release in the Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series: The Heart Release. It was rumored that this series would be going away, but it is back with a vengeance. Not only do we give out thoughts on this bottle, but we also taste a number of different blinds and give our thoughts on those. You aren't going to want to miss the joke that Hector pulls on us...let's just say that he is definitely a dedicated listener and knew exactly what he was doing with his mystery blinds. If you are ever between Lexington and Knoxville or just find yourself near Corbin, you are going to want to check out Brooklyn Bros.

Raise a glass to the man who raised you well! That's what the label on the side of this brand new Four Roses Special Barrel Strength Bourbon reads. Released about a week before Father's Day, this distillery only release was meant to honor the dads in our lives but wasn't without controversy. When we recorded this episode, we wondered how one of the highest proof single barrel releases in Four Roses history could be a "tier 3." Turns out that our sensibilities were correct and Four Roses recently offered new labels to people who purchased this bottle to correct the error. But past all of that, what does a 16 year 130 proof plus single barrel bourbon from Four Roses taste like? You'll have to give us a listen to find out. This week, we start off with a very special pour and discuss a wide array of "relaxing" topics. Join us as we raise a glass, have many laughs, and engage in some "pass, try, or buy."

With Steven and Anthony on vacation, Kenny took it upon himself to book guests and record. Unlike other episodes where we give you exquisite details and our patented "pass, try, or buy," this episode is a pure hang between friends. Kenny is joined by none other than RareBird101 (DJ) and Whoryno (Alves). The three of them double blind each other with some excellent pours and engage in a riveting conversation about bourbon memories, brands, and industry trends. While this episode is lengthy and not in the typical format of the show, it is sure to delight the seasoned bourbon drinker and folks just getting into the hobby. The stories and perspective these guys bring is refreshing and the discussion showcases what bourbon is all about. Sit back, pour yourself something good and enjoy this conversation between friends.

It's hard to believe that the Master's Keep series from Wild Turkey has been around for almost 10 years. In that time, we've seen everything from ultra aged Wild Turkey bourbon to different finishing techniques (rum, sherry, toasted) which has made these bottles stand out. The most recent release of the series, dubbed "Triumph," features the oldest ever age-stated rye from the brand. Coming in at 10 years old and 104 proof, the release represents a departure of sorts for a brand that has typically focused more on bourbon than rye. But, what does it taste like? You'll have to join the conversation this week to find out. In this episode, we talk turkey, enthusiast markets, and summer vacation. We also tease an interesting episode that will be dropping soon.

Between vacations, we found the time to get together to bring you another action packed episode. This week, we taste and explore a single barrel cash strength offering from the up and coming Augusta Distillery. Nestled on the banks of the Ohio river in Northern Kentucky, Augusta Distillery released their first bourbon in 2020 and just recently won "best bourbon in the world" at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The Old Route 8 offering that we uncorked this week was selected by a local Lexington retailer and came in at 119 proof. Will this bottle live up the hype that was generated by the Buckner's 13 year bourbon that was deemed best in the world? Join us this week as we talk Disney, footwear, and NBA referees. As per the usual, Kenny offers up multiple blinds on the fly to compare this bottle to and many laughs ensue. You down with OPB?

This week, we head out toward Bardstown (and also north of the border) to bring you a review of Very Olde St. Nick Ancient Cask 8 Year Old Rye Whiskey. Though the label is pretty old, the distillery is actually quite new. Since 2018, Preservation Distillery has focused on sourcing very unique stocks of whiskey and bottling it under their brands which include: Very Olde St. Nick, Pure Antique, Rare Perfection, and Wattie Boone. Chances are you've seen these bottles in your market, but should you pull the trigger? You'll have to listen to find out. Vacation season is in full swing which means that we may or may not have all the fellas for each episode, but we will always do our best to bring you the best content possible. In this episode, we talk recipes, exploding grills, and Kenny pulls one of the most unexpected blinds in Mash Up history.

Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. is known as the father of the modern day bourbon industry. Not only is he a central figure in creation of what we now know and love as the Buffalo Trace Distillery, but he was also instrumental in the passing of the Bottled-in-Bond Act and even served as Mayor of Frankfort for 16 years. Though his beloved "EH Taylor" label has been owned by many different distilleries over the years, Sazerac purchased the label in 2009, effectively bringing Taylor home. This week, the guys uncork the once a year release of EH Taylor Barrel Proof Bourbon. This is the 12th release of its kind and clocks in at a whopping 131.1 proof. Will this bourbon be "hot to be hot" or will it delight our senses? In this episode, we reflect on a recent night out on the town in Lexington and also do our best Jerky Boys impression while calling the Sazerac customer service number. It's another laugh filled week and we appreciate you coming along for the ride.

There was a rumor floating around that David Jennings aka Rare Bird 101 was going to be in town for an event at Wild Turkey. We figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if he would be willing to join us for a conversation. We knew it was a long shot, but when he said "yes," we couldn't believe it. So, this week, we present a wide ranging conversation with the unofficial mayor of Wild Turkey, Mr. David Jennings. In the episode, you will hear about his journey is whiskey, his unabashed love for Wild Turkey, and you'll get insider info on everything that went into making Raconteur Rye a reality. On top of all of that, Kenny prepares one of the most epic blinds in Mash Up history. This is the longest episode we've ever released, but it is well worth it. Sit back, grab some Turkey or Raconteur and enjoy!

Over the past couple weeks, you've heard us talking about the WoodWork Collective and David Jennings aka Rare Bird 101. What do you get when you mix the palate and bourbon prowess of David Jennings with the good folks over at the WoodWork Collective? Well...it's none other than Raconteur Rye! The recently released, limited edition, straight rye whiskey is a blend of three different/expertly finished types of 95/5 MGP rye: traditional new charred oak, cured toasted oak barrel 48 months (air dried), and finally, a mizunara barrel that once held 16 year old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. These three liquids were expertly married to create the inaugural release of Raconteur Rye. But, what does it taste like? You'll have to listen to find out. This week, the guys enlist an AI bot to help with pronunciation of the brand name and laugh their way through another session of serious whiskey conversation.
